Councilman Clarke Introduces Two Tax Abatement Bills

Bill 090298 would reduce the amount of real estate taxes exempted over ten years, from 100% in the first year to 90% in the second, 80% in the third, 70% in the fourth, 60% in the fifth, and 50% in the sixth through tenth years. Bill 090299 would reduce the real estate tax exemption 10% each year, from 100% in the first year to 10% in the tenth year.

Bill 090167: New Bill Ties Tax Abatement to LEED Certification; Hearing April 2

Introduced on March 5 by Councilmembers Jones, Reynolds Brown, and Green, Bill 090167 would amend real estate tax exemptions to require LEED certification under certain terms and conditions. The Committee on Finance will hold a Public Hearing Thursday, April 2, 2009, at 1:00 PM, in Room 400, City Hall, to hear testimony on the bill. Immediately following the hearing, the Committee on Finance will hold a public meeting to consider action on the bill.
